Praia no Parque
Located in the Eduardo VII park, the main public park of central Lisbon, the existing building was built in 1954 and designed by the renown Portuguese Architect Alberto José Pessoa.
Throughout its existence the building had been badly refurbished, maintained and extended for service areas.
In our proposal, the original structure is refurbished as close as possible to the original, and the extensions are now walled in a mirror volume, vanishing amid the trees - the context with the Park is restored, and the original structure and new constructions are clearly identified.
A new glass entrance vestibule is built to the south which, like a greenhouse, recreates the transparency that once existed.
In the interior design the original concrete structure has the leading role. Taking advantage of its regularity and slender design, its organizational and structural function are back.
